How to Make a Sarong
Before the how, we should first get to know what a sarong is. It is a large cloth or a large piece of cloth or fabric which people use to cover or wrap themselves with. It is often used as a substitute for a skirt usually during outdoor parties especially in beaches. Some use it as a dress or a scarf. For some who want to have a relaxing wear, they would prefer to have a sarong instead. Most of the users of a sarong are women. Very seldom do you see males using it.
Sarongs are used as sheets and for most people I see using the sarong as covering from being exposed. Some may use it as a substitute umbrella. For some who are at cold places, they use a sarong as a covering when they are in cold places. Some use it for protection from being burned by the sun. Others would use it as a shawl during night as a replacement for the jackets and sweaters.
A Sarong is sold almost in every part of the globe. But for some they prefer making their own so as to have their preferences met. You first need to determine the size of the sarong you will be making.
Procedure:
• So to start in making a sarong, a rectangular shaped, lightweight cloth or fabric should be available. The design may differ depending on the user.
• You will also be needing some pins, a chalk or a pencil whichever is available as markers, a cutter or a pair of scissors, some colorful threads depending on the color of the fabric, a needle or a sewing machine. But some may not want to have it sewn on the edges.
• Wrap yourself or whoever the sarong is intended to so as to know the right size of the cloth. The size of the cloth will vary depending on the preference of the one to use it or will depend on the size and height of the user. Straight pins or chalks are needed as markers for this part of the procedure. Then you may cut the cloth.
• If the procedure is done rightly up to this point, the desired shape should appear. The cloth must first be washed for the reason of eliminating the risk of the cloth shrinking. The size of the hem or edging will vary. You will be needing the tape measure in this part for some would want it large from an inch to one and a half inch but it may vary.
• After marking the preferred measurement and shape of the said piece of cloth using the chalk or a pencil, then you may cut it and sew it.
• Then the cloth should be folded on the sides and sewn using a sewing machine to create an edging. Then the hem of the cloth should be ironed so as to flatten it.
In choosing the cloth make sure that you are familiar with it for some cloths are very difficult for this task. Others may prefer thin cloths. Sarongs are available and made in many different types depending on their use.
